Involvement of the United States
The United States decided to help in the defense of South Korea against communist North Korea. Days later a resolution was passed in the United Nations, member countries were called to give assistance to South Korea to defeat the attack. General Douglas MacArthur, then commanding US forces in the Pacific and of the occupation of Japan, was appointed commander of the joint forces.
